Global Green Model City of 2019 - Durban

Durban! We’re sure you must have heard about this amazing city in South Africa. But to your surprise, this is the third largest city in South Africa and is also the capital of KwaZulu-Natal province. Durban is best known for the idyllic beaches of the Golden Mile, world-class surf spots, and many more things. This makes it a perfect travel destination and more than 200,000 tourists from all over the world visit Durban every year.

Much to your surprise, Durban was the first city to get the Global Green Model City award by HUGSI even since our inception in 2019. A year later, our team visited Durban to meet, Mr. Thembinkosi Ngcobo, Head of Parks and Recreation, Durban city.

“With the help of the HUGSI index, we now know that what we have done in our planning is exactly what the city and its people needed.” - Mr. Thembinkosi Ngcobo

See this short video to hear from Mr. Thembinkosi Ngcobo himself. He perfectly explained what this award meant to the people of Durban and gave his views on Urban Green Space.
